Metal Masher

Summary: The 7 rated Metal Masher trail includes some challenging obstacles and a 1300 foot high view from Arth’s Rim which overlooks Highway 191 between Gold Bar Rim and Highway 313. This iconic loop follows around Arths Rim and offers a variety of fun, difficult obstacles. Many great views including one of the best overlooks in Moab.

Location: Leave Moab going North on Highway 191. Turn west on the dirt road that leads into Little Canyon about 7 miles north of the Colorado River Bridge. The trail includes the area between Little Canyon and Highway 313 to the west.

The Trail: Metal Masher has plenty of well named obstacles to threaten your machine. At the left is “Widow Maker”. Other obstacles include “Mirror Gulch” that will try to take off the mirrors on a full sized 4WD, “Mother-in-Law Hill” and the optional “Rock Chucker Hill.”

The pretty vertical walls and the impressive “Goony Bird” in Little Canyon are absorbing. The latter stop on Arth’s Rim overlook provides long engaging views in all directions including into Arches National Park.

This trail has gotten much more difficult over the years. When we first drove it in 1999, Widow Maker was only about 4 ft. high. Today it’s double that and growing. Very few vehicles can get up it without winching. We found no winch points. We suggest you team up and have a second vehicle take the bypass to the top of the obstacle to winch or serve as a winch point. Trail is open to OHVs. We got our RZR around with a little extra effort. MUST TRAILER

Dont let the dirt road at the trail head fool ya. It wont be easy for long!
